Sam Chandler Rumson performs general maintenance work for Canyon Pass Provisions in Fair Haven, New Jersey. Beyond his professional responsibilities, Sam Chandler Rumson also stays actively involved in his community. For four years, he volunteered for the Key Club, an international organization committed to forming servant leaders. This year, the Key Club will host its annual International Convention from July 5-9 in San Antonio, Texas. Their largest event for the year, the convention will bring together members from across the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean to celebrate the organization’s achievements. Sponsors of the Eliminate Project, for example, will provide an update on their efforts to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus worldwide. During the five-day event, participants will listen to talks on servant leadership and discover new groups and charities to work with on future projects. They will also attend sessions where they can share their progress on current projects and discuss fundraising ideas. In addition, attending Key Clubbers will also get to participate in this year’s elections and elect the members of the 2017-2018 International Board.

An active volunteer and dedicated student, Sam Chandler studies at Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey. A former student of Rumson Fair Haven High, he has taken several honors and AP courses and spent hundreds of hours volunteering with various organizations. In his free time, Sam Chandler of Rumson loves surfing. Many individuals think of shark attacks when it comes to surfing injuries, but surfers are actually much more at risk of suffering sprains, dislocations, or cuts while on the water. Although preventing these injuries is for the most part fairly simple, it requires a bit of preparation. When not on the water, surfers should complete conditioning and flexibility exercises. These types of exercises strengthen the body’s joints and can also help to improve overall balance. Meanwhile, surfers should do a thorough body stretch immediately before going out on the ocean. It’s also important that they put on sunscreen and continue to reapply it throughout the day. Surfers can also reduce their risk of injury while on the water by following basic surfing rules. According to the sport's etiquette, surfers should respect one another’s space and give others a chance to catch a wave. Also, only one surfer should ride a wave at a time. Following these rules prevents collisions between surfers. Further, it’s important that surfers keep an eye out for changing weather conditions as well as rocks and reefs in shallow areas. If surfers do fall in these areas, they should keep their body flat and protect their head and face. Sam Chandler of Rumson, New Jersey, played shortstop on both his high school’s varsity baseball team and the travel team for three years. Named as shortstop for the All Division Central A team, Sam Chandler of Rumson received the designation by unanimous vote. The position of shortstop is as difficult as it is vital to a team's success. The player needs to be constantly aware of what is happening on the field and must be able to use this knowledge to quickly decide on a play. He or she must know how to cover second base on a steal, be ready to throw a player out at second base on a double play, and cover third base when the third baseman needs to move. Such expertise must be present alongside a high level of athletic ability, as the player must be able to quickly cover long distances and regularly throw the ball across the full length of the infield. A good shortstop can meet these requirements by mastering such techniques as the bow and arrow throw and the one-shuffle step, though he or she also needs to develop strong communication skills with teammates. Only by learning what other players need to do can the shortstop decide where he or she needs to be and get there quickly. After attending Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School and becoming a member of the National Honor Society, Sam Chandler of Rumson, New Jersey, is attending the Blair Academy. As a supporter of Change A Life Uganda, Sam Chandler volunteered at the St. Lawrence school in Mygiera, Uganda, and also raised $5,000 for its health clinic. Change A Life Uganda’s mission is to help children who are orphans and underprivileged in Uganda by providing education, medical care, and commerce. The organization's vision is that a healthy and educated child can improve the future of Uganda. Education is the keystone of the mission, and the nonprofit helps teachers promote academic excellence from primary school to the university level with a goal of increasing both attendance and graduation rates. Change A Life Uganda also strives to increase the ratio of teachers to students and provide teachers with more training. Less advantaged children receive housing and free tuition, and there is a program to improve adult reading as well, since literate adults are more likely to be involved in the academic pursuits of their children. A recent high school graduate, Sam Chandler attended Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School where he took a number of honors courses. During his breaks, Sam Chandler of Rumson volunteered all over the world, working at Proyecto Asis animal reserve in Costa Rica and serving a school in Uganda. Based in Costa Rica, Proyecto Asis is an organization that offers volunteer opportunities for those looking to immerse themselves in the culture, learn Spanish, and serve wildlife. There are three primary opportunities through the organization. The first is the Wildlife Rescue Center, where volunteers can learn about native wildlife up close. They help prepare food and clean the cages and also do a number of other tasks, such as building new enclosures or making toys for the animals. Volunteers with an interest in serving a larger population can participate in the service learning program, which blends community service with cultural immersion. These programs vary based on volunteer ages. Finally, those looking to improve their Spanish can participate in the immersion Spanish program, which gives each student semi-private lessons for four hours a day while leaving time each day for exploration outside of the classroom. Recent Rumson Fair Haven High School graduate Sam Chandler took multiple honors and AP courses and participated in the National Honors Society. Sam Chandler also belonged to the Spanish National Honor Society and Rumson’s Key Club, where he performed more than 25 hours of community service each year. In the United States, Spanish has quickly become the second most-spoken language and is also the fastest-growing language. Many high school students now choose to study the language in school and many go on to study it further in college. There are many good reasons to learn Spanish. One of the best is to enhance career prospects. Employers are often looking for employees who speak Spanish—in fact, employers in multiple fields say they will choose a candidate who can speak Spanish over a candidate who only speaks one. There is a huge demand in many industries, including nursing, construction management, and media, for employees who are both qualified and bilingual. Additionally, major corporations understand the benefit of reaching the Spanish market in the United States as well as in Latin America and Mexico and rely on fluent Spanish speakers to make deals. Sam Chandler is a Rumson, New Jersey, native who has experience as a soccer referee and restaurant worker. Also a supporter of his Rumson community through charities, Sam Chandler enjoys listening to the music of Ariana Grande in his leisure. Ariana Grande released her first studio album, Yours Truly, in 2013. Riding the success of various promotional singles and featured-artist performances, the album reached No. 1 on the United States Billboard album charts. The record sold well internationally, hitting No. 2 in Canada, No. 3 in Japan, and making a number of additional top 10 appearances across the globe. In 2014, My Everything, Grande’s follow up, topped album charts around the world, and earned the singer her second straight US No. 1. It also featured the single Problem, Grande’s breakout hit. Problem, featuring Iggy Azalea, became a No. 1 hit in the United Kingdom and New Zealand and has received numerous record sales certifications. The album produced a number of successful follow up singles, including Break Free and Bang Bang. Her most recent album, Dangerous Woman in 2016, peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard charts and reached No. 1 in Australia and Norway, her second chart topper in both nations. Dangerous Woman resulted in two top 10 US singles, including the No. 4 hit “Side to Side” with Nicki Minaj. |
