Recent Rumson Fair Haven High School graduate Sam Chandler took multiple honors and AP courses and participated in the National Honors Society. Sam Chandler also belonged to the Spanish National Honor Society and Rumson’s Key Club, where he performed more than 25 hours of community service each year. In the United States, Spanish has quickly become the second most-spoken language and is also the fastest-growing language. Many high school students now choose to study the language in school and many go on to study it further in college. There are many good reasons to learn Spanish. One of the best is to enhance career prospects. Employers are often looking for employees who speak Spanish—in fact, employers in multiple fields say they will choose a candidate who can speak Spanish over a candidate who only speaks one. There is a huge demand in many industries, including nursing, construction management, and media, for employees who are both qualified and bilingual. Additionally, major corporations understand the benefit of reaching the Spanish market in the United States as well as in Latin America and Mexico and rely on fluent Spanish speakers to make deals.
